As we approach the end of the year, it is always a great opportunity to reflect on how we have positively impacted the world. Each of us contribute in many ways: for our family, friends, for those in need, for our surroundings, for our work, and for the environment; the list goes on and on. If we do one positive act each day, we can all make this world a better place for everyone.
The last two years were difficult due to the pandemic, and we all had to make many adjustments in our lifestyles. As time goes by these changes are becoming our new normal. Year-end holidays are a great time to wind down and recharge to get prepared for the following year and for our contribution to the world. Spending time with our families, friends, and activities that we are passionate about (and not forgetting to read our favorite book!) is a great way to end each year.
According to an article published in the Harvard Business Review, planning out our time and envisioning how we would spend our downtime in a proactive manner makes us 8% happier compared to those who don’t plan1. People who plan their activities spend 24% less time in passive leisure activities such as napping and watching TV, and approximately 28% more time in socializing with family and friends1. Planning to spend more time with loved ones was associated with greater happiness.
We should be more flexible with our holiday activities that we don’t stress ourselves. These downtime activities allow us to relax, recharge and ensure that we get most out of the holidays to be prepared to focus and tackle on new challenges as we move into a New Year!
